NewSurg Dermalpen Microneedling Collagen Induction Treatment
Microneedling is another cutting edge treatment available at Youthful Medical Spa. Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT is the latest trending treatment in the anti-aging non-surgical cosmetic world. This is a skin rejuvenating procedure that involves the use of a device that contains super fine, tiny needles that create what we call controlled microscopic injuries. This process creates a channel that triggers the body to fill with collagen and elastin. Hyaluronic Acid serums and growth factors are delivered throughout the process, deeply hydrating and nourishing the skin, increasing the moisture levels while strengthening and restoring.
There are various delivery systems in micro-needling but automatic systems like DermalPen work best, creating literally thousands of channels through the epidermis into the upper and mid dermis. It takes 4 weeks for new collagen synthesis and about 4 months for the full effect of these treatments. The common response by patients after the initial treatment is that their skin has a “glow” and that fine lines and wrinkles are diminished.
DermalPen Automatic Micro-Needle Therapy System is the affordable medical device that is ideal for the non-surgical and non-ablative treatment of various skin conditions such as aging (wrinkles, stretching), scarring (acne, surgical), and dyschromia. Clinical studies have shown DermalPen to be safer and more effective than ablative treatments like laser resurfacing, dermabrasion, and chemical peels and just as effective as fractional CO2 laser in stimulating collagen and elastin production.
DermalPen is given in a series of 4 – 6 treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the indications or who are good candidates?
This can be performed on anyone from their 20’s through their 80’s. The younger someone starts with these type of non-invasive treatments the more they will prvent againg later in life. This is a wonderful way for everyone to maintain a youthful appearance. This can be performed on face, neck, chest, hands and body parts. This is a great choice for acne scars or stretchmarks regardless of what area they are located.
Is there any downtime and how many treatments does one need?
It is simple and fast – less than 40 minutes for an entire face and virtually no downtime. It is typically done in a series of 4-6 treatments performed 4 weeks apart. You can expect to continue seeing results for up to 6-8 months after the last treatment as your skins’ matrix regrows new collagen. It can be personalized by going deeper in some areas that require a more aggressive treatment due to sun-damage. This is an affordable treatment that can counteract collagen loss, laxity, wrinkling and can be done monthly with our membership program, purchased as a package of 4 treatments for combined pricing or simple added to any regimen as an a la carte service.
How does Microneedling differ from other fractional services?
What happens during a treatment? How do I prepare?
The procedure is normally completed within 60 minutes depending on the required treatment and areas. Your practitioner will explain the treatment thoroughly and provide a full skin consultation before beginning. Prior to arrival you will apply a topical anesthetic (in the form of a prescription cream) this should be applied to your skin 45-60 minutes prior to beginning the service. This numbs your skin and ensures that you are comfortable during the treatment. After the skin is numbed, your practitioner will gently move the Dermalpen over your skin to puncture the epidermis layers of the skin and create minute sub-cutaneous injuries. These microscopic wounds close within 3-5 minutes but that’s enough to stimulate new collagen deposition which may last up to a year. You may experience some pain, particularly around the sensitive areas of your face such as around the eyes.
Is it painful?
Can Microneedling cause hyperpigmentation?
No, in normal skin, the microneedling procedure does not cause hyper-pigmentation as long as the skin is protected against UV rays after the treatment and for the first 5-7 days with a suitable sunblock. Over exposure to UV after micro needling may cause hyper-pigmentation, but the risk is small. However if you have a history of a hyper-pigmentation please tell your practitioner before receiving a microneedling treatment. In fact clients have reported an improvement in their pigmentation following just one treatment.
How long should I wait to wear make-up?
You can return to your regular makeup routine depending on ingredients as soon as the next day, at which point your skin will appear almost normal. You must however continue to use a high factor sunscreen and any topical products specifically recommended by your practitioner. You can expect to feel an increase in dryness that may effect the smoothness of application, this will last up to a week as the top layer sloughs off. Suitable medical safe make-up can be used immediately post treatment if desired. Your practitioner will discuss with you any concerns you have about returning to your routine makeup regime.
