PRP

Hair Restoration

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Hair regeneration with PRP uses your naturally occurring plasma in a condensed form that has a higher concentration of platelets, resulting in the stimulation of your hair follicles. Hair growth is cyclical, and each individual hair on your body is going through the hair growth cycle at a different pace. Your hair grows, regresses, rests, and then is shed. It is when the hair follicles do not stimulate new growth of hair during the “growing phase” cycle that thinning and balding occur.

We use Selphyl®

PLATELET-RICH FIBRIN MATRIX (PRFM)

PRFM is PRP with superhero powers. The fibrin matrix of the PRP serves as a three dimensional scaffold to maintain the platelets at the site of

injection (filler like). The scaffold also serves to

protect the platelets so their release of growth factors can be sustained over a longer period of time. To better simplify things, PRFM yields stronger results because the “liquid gold” is held in place longer to release more stem cells and growth factors.

With PRFM, less treatments are needed for hair restoration than with standard PRP.

Benefits of PRP (PRFM) Hair Restoration:

• Stimulates the hair growth cycle

• Is a minimally invasive treatment with little to no downtime

• Has little to no possibility of an adverse reaction

For best results, consistency is key. Treatments are typically performed once a month for the first three to four months, and then every three to six months thereafter, depending on the individual patient’s response and results.

What is PRP Hair Restoration?

PRP hair restoration can help you regrow a thick, natural head of hair. Platelet rich plasma is a proactive hair loss treatment that uses a higher concentration of your own naturally occurring platelets to stimulate the hair growth cycle.

PRP is used in many medical procedures, as the increased concentration of platelets can help to expedite the healing process. With recent innovations in hair regrowth treatments, PRP hair loss treatment has been found to restart the hair growth cycle and stimulate hair follicles that have fallen dormant or inactive. Platelets contain numerous proteins that are pivotal when it comes to your body’s healing process that, when concentrated, become even more effective.

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?

Platelet-Rich Plasma is a concentrated preparation of platelets and the associated growth factors in a small volume of plasma. Platelets are a natural source of a number of growth factors in their natural and biologically-determined ratios.

What do Platelets do?

Platelets release growth factors which regulate the healing cascade by signaling surrounding cells to repair damaged tissue and regenerate new tissue. Key growth factors involved in this process include but are not limited to:

Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF)

Transforming Growth Factor group (TGF)

Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF)

Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF)

Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF)

What is the process like?

Blood is drawn from the patient.

The tubes of blood are put into a centrifuge for 10 minute to separate the plasma from the red blood cells and white blood cells.

The plasma is drawn up into syringes.

The injection site is cleaned with alcohol.

Plasma is injected back into the scalp of thinning areas.

“They stimulate the hair follicle to turn on, if it’s been in a sleeping state, and if it’s already awake, it’s like giving it a vitamin boost, helping the hair grow longer and thicker”

Frequently Asked Questions

Scientifically, why does plasma or your own blood spur hair growth?
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is loaded with growth factors that promote rapid angiogenesis and localized cell growth when PRP is injected into the scalp. The PRP causes miniaturized hair follicles to become healthier and larger, producing more robust hair growth.

How many injections happen during the first session?

Depending on the severity of the hair loss and how much area of the scalp needs to be treated, it can vary from 20-50 tiny injections.

On a scale of 1-10 how badly does the injection hurt?

None reported to date.

Will the injections cause scarring of any kind?
Visible results have been shown to last up to 4 months. Your own results may vary.
Can PRP hair therapy cure hair loss?

There is no “cure” for hair loss. PRP slows down the process and can stimulate the growth of dormant hairs.

How long after my first session will I see results?

The first indication that it is working is a slowing of hair shedding.

How many sessions does it take to see hair growth?

New hair growth can be seen as early as two months, but is typically evident between five to eight months and will continue to improve up to a year after treatment.

Who’s a good candidate for PRP hair therapy?
A good candidate is someone who has normal balanced hormonal levels and no health issues and still has a substantial amount of hair on their scalp. Early stage, mild hair loss patients see the most promising results.

Who is NOT a good candidate for PRP hair therapy?
Patients with active hormone imbalances or autoimmune diseases that may be a contributing factor to their hair loss are not good candidates. I always recommend patients get a full panel of blood work, including thyroid function, testosterone levels, and Iron/ferritin levels tested before deciding if PRP is the right choice for them. If the body has a hormone imbalance or other inflammatory response, the PRP will not likely produce the desired effect on hair growth.
