Semaglutide Weight Loss Program

Semaglutide is an FDA approved injectable glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonist that’s administered once weekly for obesity. Semaglutide is the active ingredient in Wegovy and Ozempic. While we do not use the brand name medications, we use the same dosing of Semaglutide and compound it with L-Carnitine, which is also good for fat loss!

Benefits of taking Semaglutide include:

  • Appetite suppression by slowing gastric emptying
  • Decrease in body fat percentage
  • Weight loss
  • Decreased cardiovascular outcomes in subjects cardiovascular disease
  • Lower HbA1c levels

Before your inital consultation, we require labs to be drawn to ensure you are in good health prior to beginning the treatment. Labs must be drawn two weeks before your inital consultation to make sure all labs come back by your appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Semaglutide work?
It slows down how quickly food leaves your stomach (called gastric emptying).

The result of these actions causes you to feel full — lowering your appetite and causing you to lose weight. The goal is to have limited unfavorable side effects, while losing 1-2 lbs/week (and feel the benefits of the medication-less appetite, cravings, portion sizes).

What are the common side effects?
Most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhea, tiredness, dizziness, or constipation. Initial side effects usually lessens as you continue to use Semaglutide.

Who is a good candidate for Semaglutide?
The ideal patient would have a BMI of 30 or a BMI of 27 with co-morbidities.

Patients who are not a candidate for Semaglutide are patients who have a history of diabetes (Semaglutide could make your blood sugar too low), patients who have a history of medullary thyroid cancer, and patients who have a personal or family history of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome – type 2.

If you have a history of Thyroid Cancer or nodules, we ask that you get written clearance from your physcian prior to beginning the program.

How often do I need to come in?
As you begin the program, you will come in once a week for your injection and a check in with your provider. Over the course of a few weeks, your dose will slowly increase to reduce the risk of adverse side effects, like nausea and constipation. Your provider can review the full depth of the program with you during your consultation.

How soon do you see results?
Most patients will begin to see weight loss after their inital dose has increased one to two times, typically within a month.

Do I need to follow a particular diet while taking Semaglutide?

Not at all – there are no food restrictions with this diet! We do encourage patients to live an active lifestyle and maintain a balanced diet for optimal results.

How is Semaglutide administered?

Semaglutide is injected just under the skin (subcutaneously), typically in your abdomen.
